The Milton Menace are technically undefeated to start the OJHL regular season!
They had their home and season opener on Friday, September 5th, taking on the Buffalo Jr. Sabres at the Milton Memorial Arena.
Buffalo opened the scoring in the first period, getting on the board four minutes into the game. They’d take that 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Alec Stewart would tie the game for Milton, getting his 1st goal of the season, assisted by Josh Currie and Captain Graeme MacAuley. It was 1-1 after 40 minutes of action.
MacAuley would then get a goal of his own to start the final frame, but it’d go to waste with Buffalo tying things up with just over a minute to go. That’d be the catalyst for overtime, and then double overtime, before the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Austin McKillop was in net for Milton. He stopped 39 of 41 shots for the .951% save percentage.
The Menace weren’t done for their opening weekend, as they had another home game on Sunday, September 7th – this time against the Georgetown Raiders.
This time around, Milton scored the opening goal. The recently re-signed Andrew Giljanovic potted one home, with help from Nick Gilby and Nathan Catalano. Just before the end of the period, the Menace would take a two goal lead. Josh Currie was the goal scorer, with Ivan Fabjan and Gavin Sheehan getting the helpers. It was 2-0 Milton after 20 minutes.
In the second period, Seth Vreugdenhil would make it a three goal game, with Fabjan and Sheehan getting the assists once again. That lead was somewhat shortlived, as the Raiders would put two on the board before the end of the second. It was 3-2 Menace heading into the final frame.
Easton Lynds would be the hero for the Menace, as he’d score a pair of goals in the third period. Georgetown would get one back, but it was all for not. Milton beat Georgetown 5-3.
Once again, Austin McKillop was in net for Milton. The all-star netminder stopped 27 of 30 shots, giving him the even .900% save percentage.
The Menace now have the work week off as they get ready for action this coming weekend. They hit the road on Friday, September 12th to take on the Niagara Falls Canucks at the Gale Centre.
They then return home on Monday, September 15th to host the St. Michael’s Buzzers. Game time at the Milton Memorial Arena is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Buy your tickets for any/all home games here.
