Escarpment View Public School in Milton
Students across Halton will return to classrooms on Wednesday, September 3rd, as both the Halton District School Board (HDSB) and Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) begin the new school year.
The HDSB is preparing to welcome about 65,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, supported by thousands of teachers, support staff, and administrators. Staff spent the summer readying classrooms and will take part in professional development on September 2nd, a scheduled PA Day. Among the highlights this year is the opening of Harvest Oak Public School in Oakville, a new Sustainable Future School designed for 750 students with modern learning spaces and child care rooms.
The HCDSB is also welcoming families back with a focus on its 2024-2028 Multi-Year Strategic Plan, which emphasizes four priorities:
- Achieving
- Believing
- Belonging
- Becoming
Board officials say the first day brings a sense of renewal and possibility, with classrooms that nurture academics, faith, and community. Parents are encouraged to access provincial guides and board resources to stay informed and engaged in their child’s education.
To mark the start of the year, the Halton Police are running Project Safe Start until Friday, September 5th, targeting school zone safety with enforcement on speeding, stop signs, seat belts, and school bus rules.
“We know how special September is and how excited students are to head back to the classroom, but we also must remember the need to slow down and stay alert,” says Stephen J. Tanner, Chief of Police for the HRPS. “Whether you’re behind the wheel, a cyclist, or a pedestrian, safety always comes first. It’s our commitment at the HRPS to ensure our region’s children return to school safely. We’re reminding residents to be mindful of their surroundings and recognize that road safety is a year-round, shared responsibility. Through education and enforcement every day, we continue to make the Halton community a safe place to work, live, play, and learn.”
Residents are reminded to report driving violations or request enforcement of a particular area here. In an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
Halton’s two boards say they look forward to a year of growth, success, and collaboration with families as students begin the 2025-2026 school year.
