York Region and Simcoe County are teaming up on essential rehabilitation work for the Holland River Bridge along Highway 11, just east of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
It’s believed the project will strengthen the bridge and extend its service life, ensuring safer travel for residents, commuters, and businesses.
Construction will take place in two stages between fall 2025 and fall 2026, with limited activity in winter months. Work will include replacing bridge deck joints, repairing girders, and shifting traffic to close half of the bridge at a time. During this period, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with a temporary speed limit in place.
Stage one will focus on the south side of the bridge from fall 2025 to winter 2025, while stage two will address the north side from spring to fall 2026. Crews will be on site Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Delays are expected, and residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time and plan alternate routes.
Bradford West Gwillimbury Mayor James Leduc emphasized the importance of the project, noting that while it may cause short-term inconvenience, it will result in a stronger, more reliable connection for the community.
Access to nearby homes and businesses may be briefly interrupted, but water services will not be affected, and lane restrictions will be lifted during the winter pause.
