The financial services community came together in a powerful show of support at the first-ever Champions For Change Financial Services Luncheon, raising over $100,000 for United Way Halton & Hamilton.
Held on Wednesday, June 4th, the event brought together more than 170 professionals from across the region to support vital local programs focused on housing, food security, mental health, and youth mentorship.
The luncheon was the brainchild of Marc Hamel, Associate Portfolio Manager with Manulife Wealth, who envisioned a new way for the financial sector to lead with purpose.
“This event was designed to bring people together around one idea—that each of us has the power to be a champion in our own community,” says Hamel. “By showing up, sharing ideas, and giving generously, this group proved that change starts with action.”
Attendees were inspired by keynote speaker Jayna Hefford, a four-time Olympic gold medalist and current Executive VP of Hockey Operations for the Professional Women’s Hockey League. Drawing from her decorated hockey career, Hefford shared personal insights on resilience, leadership, and the impact of giving back.
“Jayna reminded us that being a champion isn’t just about individual success. It’s about lifting others up,” notes Brad Park, President and CEO of United Way Halton & Hamilton.
The event is part of United Way’s United in ACTION campaign – an ongoing effort to build stronger, more inclusive communities during a time of rising local needs. The funds raised will support 124 programs across the Halton and Hamilton area.
