Sustainable Milton is holding a hands-on environmental effort this weekend.
On Sunday, June 8th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., volunteers will gather to remove invasive buckthorn from Centennial Forest, starting at Coulson Park in Milton.
Buckthorn is a fast-spreading, non-native plant that overtakes native species, reducing habitat quality for local wildlife. This community weed pull aims to restore balance to the local ecosystem by clearing out as much of this aggressive invader as possible.
Volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather, with long sleeves, pants, and closed-toe shoes highly recommended to avoid scratches and ticks while working in the undergrowth.
New volunteers must complete a waiver and permission form, available here. If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the form, and be sure to check email junk folders if it doesn’t arrive.
Volunteer hours are available.
