The Milton Public Library (MPL) is kicking off a season of reading, learning, and giving back with the launch of five exciting summer initiatives.
From programs for kids and teens to transit partnerships and community giving, this year’s summer lineup promises something for everyone.
The launch will be celebrated with a community-wide Summer Kickoff Party on Saturday, June 14th at the Main Library, located at 1010 Main Street East. It’ll run from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., featuring indoor and outdoor activities, crafts, contests, button-making, a bus scavenger hunt, with special remarks from Milton Mayor Gord Krantz and MPL CEO Sarah Douglas-Murray.
Here’s what’s launching:
- TD Summer Reading Club (Children)
This year’s theme, “Around the World,” invites children to explore global stories through books. Kids can track their progress on Beanstack and win prizes while discovering the joy of reading. - Teen Summer Reading Club
Teens can also use Beanstack to log reading hours and enter to win prizes all summer long. - Adult Summer Reading Club
Adults earn stamps by completing activities in a travel-themed passport available at all branches starting June 14. Completed passports are entered into a draw for a grand prize. - Read and Ride Program
MPL teams up again with Milton Transit to offer free bus rides for youth aged 16 and under from June 14 to August 31. Kids just need a library card with a validation sticker, available at all library branches. - Summer Giving Campaign
In support of MCRC’s Infant Food Bank, MPL aims to collect $500 worth of baby essentials this summer. Donations can be dropped off at any MPL branch or made online through an Amazon Wishlist. Twenty donors will be randomly selected to receive a thank-you goodie bag from MCRC and MPL.
“Summer at MPL is all about community,” says CEO Sarah Douglas-Murray. “Whether you’re a child discovering new worlds through books, a teen riding across town, an adult diving into a new read, or a neighbour giving back, there’s something for everyone at the library this season.”
