The Milton Menace finally got back in the win column, but it came at a price over the weekend.
On Friday, October 18th, the Menace welcomed in their cross-region rivals in the Oakville Blades to the Milton Memorial Arena. The game started off well for the Menace, as they opened the scoring in the first period. 16-year-old Ryder Cali got his 8th goal of the season, assisted by Dean Deligeorgis and Cole Semeniuk. Captain Graeme MacAuley was able to follow that up with his 4th of the season, assisted by Deligeorgis and a returning Alessandro Petreccia. Semeniuk was also able to find the back of the net in the first, scoring his 2nd with help from Tristan Tremble and Ivan Fabjan. The Menace led 3-0 after 20 minutes of action.
In the second period, Semeniuk continued his great game with another goal, assisted by Marcus Tryfon and Alexandr Siletskiy. That brought the Menace to a 4-0 led after two periods of play.
The Blades started a comeback in the final frame, scoring three unanswered goals. Cali was able to settle things down on the powerplay, scoring his 2nd of the game and 9th on the season, assisted by Gabriel Ciarallo and MacAuley. The Menace would win 5-3.
In net for Milton was Austin McKillop, stopping 32 of 35 shots for a .914% save percentage.
The feelgood moment of getting that win on Friday didn’t last long.
Coming up on Sunday, October 20th was the mighty Collingwood Blues. The Menace played the Blues in Collingwood last week, losing 1-0.
Could they finally get on the board against the Blues?
Collingwood opened the scoring in the first frame, with Sam Lockyer beating Austin McKillop 14 minutes into the game. They’d take that lead into the first intermission.
With the second period being uneventful for scoring, the Menace tried to things up in the final 20 minutes. They’d managed to get nearly 30 shots on net for the game, but the Blues sealed it with a literal last second empty net goal. The Blues would beat Milton 2-0.
McKillop seems to have won the starting role for the time being, playing in both games this weekend. He stopped 30 of 31 shots, giving him a stellar .967% save percentage.
The Menace will have a few days before they hit the road again. They won’t be going far as they’ll take on their North Halton rivals, the Georgetown Raiders. Game time at the Mold Masters Sportsplex will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23rd.
Their next home game is on Friday, October 25th. They take on the Burlington Cougars. Buy your tickets for any/all home games here.
