Milton’s Town Council received an update on what the Milton Education Village (MEV) is planned to look like on Monday, October 7th.
In attendance for the presentation were a number of representatives from Wilfrid Laurier University, including the school’s Golden Hawk mascot, Midas.
This project has origins that date back to the 1990s when the Town first identified a need for post-secondary education within Milton. In 2007, the Town acquired land that could one day turn into this future project. After a few hiccups with the provincial government, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the funding needed to establish the Milton Education Village in 2021.
This will be a joint campus between Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College. There will also be a long term care facility on-site that will be operated by Schlegel Villages.
Both Laurier and Conestoga established a presence within Milton ahead of schedule, launching three total campus locations around town with a combined capacity of over 3,000 students:
- Conestoga College – Park Hill Campus
- Conestoga College – Steele Ave Campus
- Wilfrid Laurier – Laurier Milton Academic Centre
Work is under way on the MEV, which will be located along Tremaine Road, in the area of the Milton Velodrome.
Here are renderings provided by Laurier at Monday’s meeting:
A timeline was not provided by Laurier during the presentation. It was mentioned that all renderings provided were done by Laurier architects to project what the campus would look like by 2051, as part of the ‘Strategic Plan and Vision of Milton in 2051’. We’ll let you know when a projected completion date is shared.
