What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Milton Public Library providing orange shirt pins this week
Next Monday will be the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It’s a day to honour and reflect on the injustices caused by the residential school system. It’s also Orange Shirt Day, a day that remembers the story of Phyllis Jack Webstad. More than 60 years ago, she was taken to a residential school at just six years old. Her grandmother saved up and bought her an orange shirt to wear. The shirt was taken from her and never given back. Leading up to the day, the Milton Public Library is inviting residents to their branches to pick up supplies and instructions to make an orange shirt pin to wear on Monday. Supplies are limited and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis for those between the ages of 13 and 17.
Daily WTF – Police arrest five people in Spain over fake Brad Pitt scam
It seems Brad Pitt is a big hit over in Spain. So much so, that people were able to scam two women out of hundreds of thousands of dollars just by pretending to be him. Five suspects have been arrested in what is being called Operation Bralina. Nearly $500,000 CAD was stolen from two women, who thought they were transferring money to the big movie star as part of a romantic relationship. Maybe it was to pay for his current legal issues with his divorce and stuff, who knows! About a quarter of it has been recovered so far. Reminder that if you think you’re talking to a movie star over a messenger app, just know, it’s definitely not. Brad Pitt is not messaging you randomly on What’s App.
Daily Did You Know – Multiple ponds in Milton will be going under construction
Just because summer is over doesn’t mean construction has to end. The Town of Milton sent out a notice yesterday, warning residents of multiple pond locations around the area that need some upgrades. Starting this month, 10 ponds will go under construction. Road closures are not expected, but lane closures are possible. You’re also not going to be able to walk around these specific ponds as they’re being worked on, so you might need to find a new walking route for the time being. The work should be done by November.
Lily Collins Can’t Name One Genesis Song
How much do you care about your dad’s work? For most people, you might have a vague idea of what your dad does, and it turns out, that also includes the daughter of Phil Collins, Lily Collins. The actress was being interviewed by Andy Cohen when her father’s music came up. He asked her about his band ‘Genesis’, to which she took a minute, thought about it, and said she couldn’t name a song by the band. Now, before you go for her head for not being able to name any of Genesis’ top songs, despite the fact that it’s her dad’s band, I want you to think about what life as the daughter for Phil Collins is like. Would you put his records on at home? Pop in that CD on your drive to school growing up? Search them up on Spotify before you go for your run? NO! To her, Phil Collins is her dad and his music is quite literally “dad rock.” Of course she can’t name a GENESIS song, she probably just sees it all as PHIL COLLINS and can’t distinguish the difference. She did say her favourite song by him is ‘In the Air Tonight’, which is a great pick. Can’t argue against that one.
Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton Are Actually Related, Ancestry.com Reveals
In case you didn’t know, Dolly Parton is Miley Cyrus’ godmother. That kind of thing happens when your dad is Billy Ray Cyrus. The two of them have a fantastic bond, and it’s really heartwarming to watch from the outside looking in. Wouldn’t you want Dolly Parton to be your godmother? Of course you would. Well, it turns out, their bond is actually in their blood as well. Through a test on Ancestry.com, the two discovered that they are seventh cousins. They share a relative named John Brickey, who hailed from (of course) Tennessee. Brickey is Parton’s sixth great-grandfather and Cyrus’s seventh great-grandfather. So, if you see a slight resemblance between Miley and Dolly, just know, it’s likely because of a Frenchman who moved to Tennessee back in the late 1600s. I wonder if he could also sing?
Canada’s 13-year-old basketball phenom already towers over LeBron James
Canada continues to get better at basketball, as the country continues to grow. It’s not just the population that’s growing, but also the children. Specifically a 13-year-old from Laval, Quebec. Jeremy Gohier is measuring in at 7’3″, meaning he’d already be one of the tallest players in the NBA. He’s gone viral over social media as he’s a pretty good basketball player for his size, and he’s absolutely dominating every teenager he faces. There’s actually a taller teenager from Quebec! Olivier Rioux is reportedly 7’9″ and holds the world record for tallest teenager. He’s currently playing basketball at the University of Florida, and is almost surely a lock for the pros. Imagine being 7’9″? He needs to make the NBA just so that he can afford the custom designed house to fit all his needs.
GOOD NEWS – Ohio residents flock to Springfield’s Haitian restaurants
It’s been two weeks since Donald Trump went up on stage during a debate with Kamala Harris and claimed that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio are eating the neighbourhood’s cats and dogs. The racist remark has done a lot of harm for the Haitian community, and as a sign of solidarity, Ohio residents are offering their support. According to reports, Haitian restaurants all across the state are being flooded with customers. Donations are even rolling in, as people continue to lend a hand to those in need… And that’s some good news!

It’s the Juice himself, Beetlejuice. It’s believed many people will wear the striped suits with the wild hair and makeup. Man Shocked to Discover His Pokémon Card Collection is Now Worth A Lot
Did you collect Pokémon cards growing up? You might still collect them now, but the current cards are nowhere near in value compared to the original collections. If you still have your old collection from the 90s, you might want to dig them up and get them appraised. Juan Pardo decided to take his childhood collection into a collectible market, and they were shocked by what was presented to them. He had 1500 cards. All the original Charmanders and Pikachus totalled up to $5000! Did he sell them all? No. He figured they’d likely only go up in value, and he doesn’t need the money, so what’s the rush! If you have some Pokémon cards, it might be time to get them checked… Could help pay for this month’s mortgage payment at the very least!
