A Florida teacher has decided enough is enough and has banned Gen Alpha slang from her classroom.
The banned list includes:
- pookie
- aura
- skibidi, and
- sigma
Apparently, the kids are adhering to it!
What slang words get under your skin?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – The history behind Milton’s Brassard Circle and Wetenhall Landing
Every week, we speak with Milton Historical Society President John Challinor about the origins of local street names. This week, we covered a street named after a local police officer-turned-fire chief, as well as someone who helped establish Milton’s Main Street. We’ll have two more streets next week!
Daily WTF – Politician smashes chair over rival’s head during heated live debate
If you thought Canadian and US politics were getting out of hand, then get a hold of Brazil! São Paulo held its Mayoral debate recently. Two of the candidates running were a local news anchor and a local Instagram influencer. It seems the pair don’t like each other much, as their heated debate turned into an episode of Monday Night Raw when the news anchor hit the influencer in the head with a chair. We actually have footage of it! I’m kidding, here’s the actual footage. It’s like I always say, “everything is pro wrestling, especially politics.”
Daily Did You Know – Halton Learning Foundation helping hundreds of students with annual campaign
The Halton Learning Foundation is halfway through the annual fundraising campaign. The ‘Back to School’ campaign is collecting donations that will be provided to local families in need to help students pay for various items and experiences, including school supplies, clothes, and sports fees. There’s two weeks left in the campaign.
‘Run for Milton’ returning for another year
The Run for Milton returns to the Milton Velodrome this weekend! The annual event raises money for the Milton District Hospital Foundation, with the goal of $100,000 across ten years. The event kicks off this Saturday at 9am, with a 5k run and 1k walk planned. Donate online, show up in person, and enjoy the morning!
Here are some of the strangest items hotel guests left behind
If you’ve ever travelled and stayed in a hotel before, then you’ve likely also accidentally left something behind in that hotel room before. For most people, it might be their floss or toothbrush, maybe a charging cable, or maybe one singular sock. For others, it can be some pretty unique items. Hotels.com has released their annual list of strangest things found in hotel rooms this past year. It includes a live chick and a pet lizard, as well as a voodoo doll and a car tire. Some were pretty expensive, including a $6 million watch, a briefcase full of cash, and a teddy bear full of cash. Have you ever left something behind in a hotel room? What was it?
GOOD NEWS – Teen donates 2 feet of hair for sick children after growing it out since 3rd grade
A 14-year-old boy has been growing his hair for years, and he finally cut it off – for a good reason, though! Emilio Santana had grown his hair down to his elbows. The last time it was cut was when he was in Grade 3. Six years later, he’s finally made the decision to cut it off. All two feet of the hair will be donated to create a wig for someone with cancer. He says it all started when he went to the beach and saw a girl take her hat off. Her hair went with it, and he felt bad that she was embarrassed, so he wanted to help someone who might be in a similar situation… And that is some good news!
Tuesday’s Lotto Max jackpot will be a record high
This is my reminder to you that tonight is the night for the record high Lotto Max jackpot. $80 million will likely go to someone in the country. Thousands, if not millions, of people are racing to get their lottery tickets. If you haven’t bought your ticket just yet, you have until 10:30 p.m. to buy one. Fair warning, you’re more likely to be struck by lightning than win the lottery, but I know two people who have been struck by lightning, or only one who has won the lottery, so maybe I’m due! $80 million… That’d be nice. Good luck!
Spain’s ‘pineapple-gate’ sparks hopes of romance and shop chaos
If you’re single and ready to mingle, you might want to head to the grocery store. That’s what people in Spain are doing. People are flocking to a Spanish grocery store chain to find love. Being hailed as “pineapple-gate,” Spanish singles are grabbing pineapples from the produce section and putting them in their cart. If your pineapple is upside down in your cart, then that means you are looking for romance. It’s only a thing between 7pm and 8pm, apparently. So, for that one hour, these grocery stores in Spain become the largest speed dating site in the country. For the single people: should Canadian grocery stores try this out? Or would you rather just stick with online dating? Let me know!
Stranded astronauts plan to vote in the 2024 election from space
In case you don’t know, two American astronauts have been stranded in space all summer. Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams left earth in July and were expected to return pretty shortly after. Thing is, their spaceship that took them to the International Space Station had some defects. It got them there safely, but it was unknown if they could return safely in the same ship. So, they’ve been stuck up there ever since, and will eventually return in February when another ship comes up and gets them. Thing is, in between now and then, there will be the US federal election. NASA has announced that both astronauts will not be left out in the voting process, and will actually send their votes in from space. They will be sent encrypted PDF files with voting options. They will then fill out the ballots and email them back down to earth, thus completing their duties as US citizens. Let’s hope their time in space hasn’t affected their voting decisions.
