Have you ever pictured someone looking differently before meeting them/seeing them?
Actor JK Simmons says that he had a mental image of his Whiplash director Damian Chazelle before meeting him for lunch, and he was entirely wrong in every way.
Has this ever happened to you?
It could be in your personal life; maybe a singer/artist you only ever heard on the radio; or even a film’s interpretation of a character from a book!
I think because I work in radio, people have a mental image of me when they hear my voice. Back when I was in college, my friend’s mom would listen to our campus station. She had never met me, and thought I was a 6’6″ bald man in his forties. Not quite!
Let me know if that has happened to you!

Daily WTF – Man Charged With $10 Million Streaming Music Scam Using AI-Generated Songs
A man cheated the Spotify system and is now facing fraud charges. 52-year-old Michael Smith considers himself a musician. When he came across sites like Suno and Udio that create music using artificial intelligence, the little hamster wheel in his head started to turn. He began creating songs on the sites and uploading them to Spotify. The man then went out of his way to create bot accounts that did nothing but stream his AI music, which generated $10 million in revenue. Turns out, you can’t do that. He was arrested by the FBI and is facing significant fraud charges. Let’s not discuss how big music studios are likely doing the same thing. Remember, it’s a big club and you ain’t in it.

Key quotes from the Trump-Harris 2024 U.S. presidential debate
The big thing everyone is talking about this morning is the US presidential debate that aired last night. Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris took on former President and current Republican nominee Donald Trump. To explain it one word: it was “weird.” It was only really weird on one side of it. They touched on the economy, Israel/Palestine, Ukraine, jobs, abortion – the list goes on. The big thing people are focusing on is Donald Trump accusing Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio of eating neighbourhood cats and dogs… Again, weird and just not true. As a Canadian, did you watch the US debate last night? Do you care about US politics at all, or do you brush it off because it’s not our country? Let me know!
Viral Olympian Raygun ranked No. 1 breaker in the world by sport’s governing body
One of the big things to come out of the Summer Olympics this year was the breakdancing. Most notably, people were fixated on an Australian female breaker named ‘Raygun’. Rachael Gunn had an unbelievably underwhelming performance that it became meme’d and replayed ad nauseum. Well, it appears as though, despite putting all of breakdancing in a bad light, the sport’s governing body disagrees with the general public. The World DanceSport Federation has released the rankings of breakers across the planet, and they have Raygun in the top spot for women. It’s also notable that Phil Wizard, the Canadian who won gold in the men’s category, was not ranked. It just goes to show, talent doesn’t mean everything and sometimes it’s just who you know. Reminder, breakdancing will not be returning to the Olympics in 2028.
Dave Grohl says he fathered a child outside of his marriage
I’m not one to normally dive into the lives of celebrities. On the odd occasion, depending on the type of news, we’ll discuss these topics here, but for me, I feel privacy should be respected. That said, Dave Grohl announced that he cheated on his wife and had a love child. Grohl and his wife have three daughters together, aged 18, 15, and 10. He now has a fourth daughter, this time with a woman who is not his wife. He shared the news on social media, and added that he and his wife are working on trust and forgiveness. I think I speak for all fans of Nirvana and Foo Fighters when I say, Dave, I’m not angry… I’m just disappointed.
GOOD NEWS – How a Group of James Madison High School Students Make a Custodian’s Dream Come True
A custodian at a high school in Virginia celebrated his birthday recently. Francis Apraku is known around the school as a kind and friendly man who goes out of his way for the students. When discussing his birthday last year with a group of students, they asked him what he wanted for his birthday. They wanted to know, what’s your DREAM BIRTHDAY PRESENT? He thought about it, and said he always wanted a Jeep Wrangler. The students remembered that conversation, and started a GoFundMe page for him. This year, at the start of the school year, those same students surprised Apraku with his birthday present: a bright red Jeep Wrangler. Videos and posts of the moment were shared online, and Apraku expressed his deep gratitude to the students for making his dreams come true… And that is some good news!
HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Series Opens Casting Call for Harry, Ron and Hermione
What’s old is new again! Way back in the year 2000, a movie studio began casting for a little book series-turned-movie franchise called ‘Harry Potter’. They had an open casting call and had British children come and audition for the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. They eventually ended up with three child actors: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson. Well, now in 2024, HBO is doing the same for their rebooted Harry Potter TV series. An open casting call has gone out to any and all children who think they could be part of the next trio. They’re looking for actors who will be between the ages of 9 and 11 in April of 2025. They also must be residents of the UK or Ireland to keep it true to the books. A change to this casting call to the previous one is their open to all races, ethnicities, and gender identities. The deadline is October 31st and filming starts next year – can’t wait!
Some restaurants have increased their default tip options. Canadians think you should give this much
How much should we be tipping at restaurants? This is a question we’ve been asking since the beginning of ‘Tipping Culture’. Most restaurants underpay their staff under the guise that tips make up for the lost wages. And it’s true! A good server makes good money. But, what should the customers actually be doing? According to a survey, Canadians aren’t too thrilled about the sudden increase in tipping percentages. Some places have default settings of 20-30% tips. The majority of people are comfortable with tipping 15% at restaurants. That goes away when it comes to takeout food and fast food. Where do you stand? My personal rule that I’ve adopted recently is: If I’m sitting down and the service is great, 20%. If it’s just okay, 15%. If I am standing up to order my food, I will not give you a tip. It’s that simple. What about you? Let me know!
