The Milton Menace are all tied up after an action packed weekend.
Game one of the second round match-up between the Menace and the Leamington Flyers was held on Friday, March 22nd. 825 people filled the Milton Memorial Arena.
It was quite the start for the Menace, as Captain Connor Driscoll opened the scoring at the 12:25 mark in the first period. His 2nd goal of the OJHL playoffs was assisted by Ivan Fabjan and Aidan Puley. Just eight seconds later, Justin O’Donnell gave the Menace a two goal lead. His 2nd goal of the postseason was assisted by Madden MacDougall. Before the end of the first period, the Flyers would get a goal back, making it 2-1 Milton after 20-minutes of action.
In the second period, Leamington got the lone goal. The powerplay marker tied the game, making it 2-2 after two periods.
The Flyers then jumped out to a 3-2 lead early in the third period. Driscoll was able to get the game back on track, scoring his 2nd of the game less than a minute later. It’d be tied at three after regulation, leading to sudden death overtime.
It’d take 23 extra minutes, but Leamington was able to score the game winner, taking a game on the road to start the second round. They won 4-3 in 2OT.
In net for the Menace was Forbes Andersen. He stopped 24 of 28 shots, giving him an. 857% save percentage.
Despite losing game one on Friday, the Menace weren’t going to let that affect their play.
The team made the long trip to Leamington on Sunday. Things didn’t take long to get started, as Captain Drizzy, Connor Driscoll, opened the scoring just 17 second into the game. His 4th of the playoffs was set-up by Ivan Fabjan and Aidan Puley. Eight minutes later, Jayden Levesque would score his 1st of the postseason, assisted by Gavin Sheehan and Ashtyn Pacheco. It was 2-0 Menace after 20-minutes of action.
The second period was entirely scoreless, which meant the Menace had a two-goal lead heading into the final frame.
Leamington would bring it within one early in the third, but the Menace were able to lock it down. Driscoll gave the Menace some breathing room late, scoring an empty netter. His 2nd of the game was assisted by Puley and Markus Hicks. The Menace won 3-1 to tie the series at one.
In net for game two was Glen Crandall. He faced 34 shots, stopping all but one. That gave him a very respectable .970% save percentage.
