With spring starting, let’s talk seasonal allergies!
Pollen season is here, and roughly 25% of people will be struggling with the air. That’s according to the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (CSACI).
Thankfully, experts say this cold spell has cooled off the high pollen levels, but they’ll return to normal when things warm up again.
There’s actually a lot more pollen in the air than there used to be. This trend is related to climate change, as the milder the climate, the more pollen there is. This is why pollen season starts earlier in western Canada, particularly British Columbia.
Do you struggle with seasonal allergies? If so, what’s your trick to combat them?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Retired Oakville man wins $50,000 in lottery
A retired Oakville man by the name of Giuseppe Orlando won $50,000 playing the lottery recently. His plan is to add to his retirement savings, and take his wife on a road trip.
Daily WTF – 18-wheeler carrying thousands of bees overturns in Natchez
Motorists in a Mississippi community were alarmed, and maybe a little swarmed, when a truck carrying bees overturned. The driver was unharmed and local beekeepers were called in to smoke the bees. This kept them calm while the beehives were put into another truck. We had something similar happen in Halton last year. Let me tell ya, that was a bzzzzzz-y morning.
Halton school boards finalize next year’s calendar
Parents and guardians around Halton can now plan their vacations accordingly. The public and Catholic school boards have released their calendars for the next school year. This includes all the holidays and PA Days that will be taken, pending last minute changes. The first day of school will be on Wednesday, September 4th.

Earliest vernal equinox in 128 years kicks off Spring 2024
Well, Wiarton Willie did call for an early spring. We left winter behind last night, with spring officially beginning at 11:06pm. According to the Weather Network, this is the earliest the vernal equinox has happened since 1896 – 128 years! One of the reasons it was so early this year is the leap year. However, every leap year we’ve had since 1900 has caused the first day of spring to come earlier and earlier. It affects the timing by 45 minutes every four years. If you’re wondering, it’d be a lot worse if we didn’t have the leap year, as the first day of spring would come a day later every four years. In 2028, the first day of spring will come even earlier, and will continue to do so before it’s corrected, which is a whole other factor. Point being, happy first full day of spring – and it’s only going to be happening earlier going forward.
Popeye the Sailor Man Live-Action Film in Development From Chernin, King Features
Another beloved cartoon is being made into a live action movie: Popeye the Sailor Man! This was one of my dad’s favourite shows as a kid, and so of course, that meant that I watched a lot of Popeye growing up. This will be the first live-action depiction of the character since Robin Williams held the mantle in 1980. It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle Popeye’s famous forearms. I’ll be honest, Robin Williams’ arms kind of freaked me out when he was Popeye. Great casting, though! We’ll see if they can match that this next time around. No timeline has been shared.
Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez are officially divorced
Ariana Grande is back in the headlines. Yesterday, we talked about how her grandmother broke a world record as the oldest person to make the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She’s also attached to a lot of headlines regarding Dan Schneider, which is a wild story that you should look up. But, she completed the headline trifecta with her divorce being finalized. It’s being reported that Grande will pay her ex-husband, Dalton Gomez, a one-time payment of $1,250,000. It’s not often that you see the wife having to pay in a divorce settlement, but that’s a testament to just how successful Ariana Grande is considering her ex-husband is a real estate broker. Honestly, good for her in a way. Like, you go, girl… Be successful – heck yeah!
MacKenzie Scott donates $640-million – more than double her initial plan – to non-profit applicants
Another divorce story here – the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Scott, is putting the money she earned in the divorce to great use. Scott publicly pledged millions when her divorce to one of, if not the richest man alive was finalized. She asked for small non-profits to submit applications for funding. 361 of these charities were approved, and will be splitting $640 million! The vast majority will receive $2 million. If you’re wondering, Scott received a lot of money in her divorce. She received so much that she didn’t know what to do with it. So, since 2019, Scott has given away $16.5 billion. My knees buckled when I read that. Again, good for her!
Travis Kelce in Talks to Host “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” Reboot
Travis Kelce has become a household name, even for non-football fans. He’s now looking to take on a new position: TV game show host! The tight end for the Super Bowl winning Kansas City Chiefs is reportedly in talks to host the reboot of ‘Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?’ If he takes the role, Kelce would be surrounded by ten-year-old children, who I’m sure would normally love to talk with a guy like him about football. But he’s not famous for football anymore! Can you imagine a ten-year-old wanting to talk to Travis Kelce about anything other than Taylor Swift? I don’t think so! That man is “Taylor Swift’s Boyfriend” and he will remain that until he either becomes “Taylor Swift’s Husband,” or “Taylor Swift’s Ex-Boyfriend.” That’s just how it is!
Are There 7,513 Unread Emails Cluttering Your Inbox? Expert Explains Why That’s Unwise
If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t check their email inbox often, you might also be the kind of person who forgets to pay bills. A study published in the journal Information Research found that forgetting to read your emails can negatively impact your life. If that inbox number builds up into the thousands, even tens or hundreds of thousands, there’s a good chance you’re missing something important. It says that many bill notices in 2024 come through email as a way to save paper, and if you don’t have any reminders, special folders, or auto-payments in place, you likely miss the occasional bill in your inbox. Experts recommend cleaning up your email inbox, suggesting category folders and unsubscribing from junk mailing lists. Maybe then you’ll remember to pay your internet bill this month…
