What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – These two new Milton Catholic schools need names
You could be the one who names one of the two new Milton Catholic schools opening up this fall. They both need a name, and the HCDSB is taking suggestions until this weekend. The best ones will be shortlisted, with a public vote happening in the coming months.
Daily WTF – Staff at a wildlife center wear fox masks as they care for an orphaned baby fox
The thought behind this one is really sweet, but the photos are terrifying. An orphaned baby fox (a kit) came into the care of staff at Richmond Wildlife Center in Virginia. They’re doing their best to come across as the baby’s mother, and to help with the process, they’re wearing fox masks. Their goal is to limit the baby fox’s exposure to humans so that it can easily transition back into the wild. At the very least, it’ll have some pretty unbelievable Under The Skin-esque abduction stories to tell the other foxes.
Daily Did You Know – Milton soccer team receives invite to compete in Italian tournament
The Milton Magic-Italy connection continues this month as the U14 boys soccer team will be going overseas for a tournament. They’ve been invited for a second year to compete in the Lazio Cup. That takes place later this month in Italy. The U16 boys team are already over there as they’re attending a training camp in Rome. They’ll pass each other like two ships in the night, as those players will return as the U14 team is taking off.

Zayn Malik Announces New Album ‘Room Under the Stairs’
There was a time when people were trying to figure who would be the breakout star from One Direction. Zayn Malik got himself a head start when he left the boyband early to focus on solo stuff. His 2016 album ‘Mind of Mine’ was a massive success, peaking at #1 on charts all around the world. His second album in 2018, ‘Icarus Falls’, was a bit of a flop, and then his 2021 album ‘Nobody is Listening’ was kind of appropriately named. BUT, that hasn’t stopped Malik from releasing another album. It’s titled ‘Room Under the Stairs’ and it will be released in May. The first single for the album, ‘Love Like This’, was released last year. It only got to 71 on Canadian charts, so not the best. Another single, ‘What I Am’, is expected to be released ahead of the full album on May 15th. Will Malik ever catch back up to Harry Styles? Heck, Niall Horan has also crushed it, with three sneaky chart topping albums. Well, there’s always Liam and Louis… Okay, maybe just Liam. One Direction, man. All time boyband for solo stuff.
Happy Pi Day!
Today is March 14th, also seen as 3/14, which makes it Pi Day! Beginning back in 1988 as a day to celebrate math’s infinite number, it’s become a day to eat all things pie. Whether it’s sweet, savory or in pizza form, it’s your duty today to enjoy pie in some form. Recommendation: Chocolate Cream Pie… Man, I miss the Apple Factory. Happy Pi Day!
TikTok might be banned in the United States
This week, the US House of Representatives passed a law that would ban the uber-popular social media app, TikTok, from use in the country, unless the app is sold by its Chinese creators. This comes as suspicions grow regarding the cybersecurity of the app. It’s alleged that TikTok is being used to spy on other countries, particularly the United States. It’s already been banned from government-issued phone in many countries, and it seems the public may be affected moving forward. Considering TikTok’s big competitor is America’s Instagram, it kind of feels like “Big Tech” in California is pushing this more than anything, but people seemed freaked out by the app regardless. We’ll see if it gets sold – otherwise, TikTok is being banned for good in the States, and Canada could be next.
Millennials and Gen-Z Want Original Movies and TV, Not Remakes, New Streaming Survey Says
You might be among the many people who are tired of the constant remakes, reboots, requels, sequels, and prequels. It seems like every single media franchise needs to have a ‘Cinematic Universe’ these days. If you are tired of Hollywood’s obsession with franchises, you’re not alone! A recent survey found that Millennials and Gen Zers especially want original content. Commissioned by Tubi, the survey found that 74% of respondents are clambering for something new and unique. That said, an overwhelming 96% agreed that nostalgia is still king. They’d like to have the classics, like ‘The Office’ and ‘Friends’, available at all times so they can binge them on a rainy Saturday morning. So, if Hollywood could make something new and original, but also keep the old in there every once in a while, then we’re set. Sounds easy, right?
Olivia Rodrigo Makes Free Emergency Birth Control Pills Available at Missouri Concert After State Narrows Reproductive Rights
Olivia Rodrigo rules. Not only is she one of the biggest pop (rock?) stars on the planet right now, but she’s tackling social issues as well. At a recent concert in St. Louis, Rodrigo’s team handed out free ‘Plan B’ and condoms to attendees. This came after she pledged to expand awareness and access to reproductive health care. If you didn’t know, Missouri is one of the many states that has made abortion illegal. Rodrigo is making sure that her fans are at least looked after in St. Louis. She also donates a portion of her ticket sales to a charity protecting reproductive rights and fighting gender-based violence. Heck yeah, let’s go Olivia!
Playing With Dogs Boosts Relaxation And Concentration
If you’re having trouble relaxing, just go play with a dog! A study out of South Korea found that pet therapy is one of the best ways to improve mental health. It says that playing with a dog alters our brain waves, leading to more relaxation and concentration. So, if you’re ever stressed at work, try to bring Fido to the office – or better yet, work from home! It might actually lead to you getting more work done, which is funny to think about.
