Friday, March 8th is International Women’s Day (IWD)!
According to the official website, IWD is described as “a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.” The day is also used as a call to action for gender parity.
In past years, we’ve spoken with several influential women within the Milton community on what the day means to them. You can hear the interviews below:
Carm Bozzo is the Director of Philanthropy and Human Engagement for Halton Women’s Place. She explains what the day means to her.

Sameera Ali is the Regional Councillor for Milton’s Ward 4. She says we’re still a long way from true equality.
Kristina Tesser Derksen is the Town Councillor Milton’s Ward 1. She feels her daughter is a big factor of why she works as hard as she does.
There will be an International Women’s Day March in Milton on Friday. It’s being held by the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Milton & District.
Past advocacy committee chair Kathy Sellers says IWD is a day for recognition, but notes the call to action aspect is important.
The annual march will be held at Hugh Foster Hall, behind Milton’s Town Hall at 141 King Street. It starts at 10:00 a.m. with a few speeches and a flag raising. The marchers will then head down Main Street before circling back to the Hall. All are welcome to attend and there is no registration required.
