Would you travel for a wedding?
A recent study found that millennials are “obsessed” with destination weddings.
The issue: the guests don’t want to go! Not everyone can afford to go on a destination wedding, and some people are being invited to multiple in a year!
There’s apparently been an uptick in inquiries for the 2025 season… If you were invited to a destination wedding, would you go?
How far in advance would you need notice for the invitation?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Local charities and non-profits can hold events at Woodbine Mohawk Park for free
If you’re a local charity or non-profit and you need to get the word out there, Woodbine Mohawk Park wants to help! They’re offering a space in their building for free on race nights to non-profits. It allows groups to promote themselves, promote specific events, fundraise, and even sell merchandise. All you need to do is book your spot!
Daily WTF – ‘Spare’ the clothes at a nude bowling event
If you feel your clothing is a little too restrictive as you’re going for your third strike in a row, then ditch the clothes at nude bowling event! This is happening in Pittsburgh in April. It’s being hailed as the ultimate bowling event. It’s open to anyone and everyone 18 years or older, and it’s aptly named ‘Balls Out Bowling’… No comment. Invite your friends, and definitely don’t invite your family. It’s a closed door ticketed event, and you’re asked to bring a towel for sitting down. I can guarantee, there will be some weird smells in that bowling alley that night.
Local DJ is hosting workshop in Milton
If you’ve ever wanted to become a DJ and learn how to scratch and transition, then check out a workshop happening in Milton. It’s being held in Milton at House of Chords on Sunday, March 10th. It’s free, and just ten spots are available for the afternoon. It will start at 1pm.
Daily Did You Know – Warm temperatures and lots of rain this time of year can be dangerous
It’s been a warm winter, and as spring inches closer, Conservation Halton is warning residents about the dangers of waterways. Any ice and snow that is left has been melting away, raising water levels. Spring also comes with lots of rain, which can also raise those levels. You’re asked to stay away from bodies of water for the time being, as the edges could be unstable. The water flow can also faster than usual this time of year, increasing risk. Be smart and stay safe!
2024 Just for Laughs Montreal comedy festival cancelled
It could be the end of an era for comedy fans in Canada. Just For Laughs has cancelled their annual comedy festival and filed for bankruptcy. They will be looking to restructure as they claim their current financial situation is unsustainable. Anyone who has tickets to the already cancelled shows can get refunds. The plan is for the festival to return in 2025, but that’s not a guarantee at this point. We’ll wait and see!
Joel McHale Says Community Movie Will Shoot in 2024
This one is more for me than anything else. Community is one of my favourite shows of all time, and the TV show had a running bit of “Six seasons and a movie!” It comes from one of the characters being obsessed with a show that another character guaranteed was going to be cancelled after one season. ‘Six seasons and a movie’ was the retort, and it became a catchphrase for the show that managed to survive several cancellations on its way to six seasons, and now, a movie. Star of the show, Joel McHale, has confirmed that filming will begin this year. It was originally in the works before the pandemic shut everything down. The cast and crew are now reportedly relying on breakout star, Donald Glover, to find time in his busy schedule. Fingers crossed this happens, and I’ll be first in line to buy tickets to see it in theatres (if it reaches theatres).
Toronto officially had its warmest winter ever
If it seemed like this winter was incredibly warm, that’s because it was! Using data from Environment Canada, Toronto Pearson International Airport just had its warmest meteorological winter since records began in 1937. The average temperature was 0.3°C. The previous record was set in 2001. Seven of the other eight years in the top ten were in the last 27 years. So, yeah, things are definitely warming up over the years. We barely got any snow this year, with no official snow days called in Milton. There’s still time – but it doesn’t look like we’ll get anything major in the coming weeks.
Toronto sports mogul Larry Tanenbaum pursuing WNBA expansion team
Women’s sports have been blowing up the last few years. College basketball has become must-see with the emergence of stars like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. The WNBA is seeing growing attendance with Sabrina Ionescu as the face of the league. The newly formed PWHL is enjoying an exciting inaugural year where they sold out Scotiabank Arena. All that happening, and we could soon see a women’s basketball team in Toronto! Larry Tanenbaum (partial owner of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment – which means he owns part of the Leafs, Raptors, TFC, Marlies, and Argos) is looking to bring a WNBA team north of the border. The league recently expanded to 13 teams, with the Golden State Warriors launching a team for $50 million US. Reports say Toronto could be team #14, with an announcement expected by May. They’d likely play out of Coca-Cola Coliseum (where the Toronto Marlies play) and would be an official team by the start of the 2025 season. Exciting stuff!
A library is getting rid of fees if you show them cat pics
Many libraries across the world are deciding to get rid of overdue fees. It’s been found that, actually, these fees lead to people hanging on to overdue books because of the consequences, and these libraries then lose out on the patronage of those people moving forward. So, removing fees brings those late books back into the fold consequence-free, and those visitors return to using the library once again. For residents in Worcester, Mass., all they need to do to get out of those fees is show staff at the library pictures of cats! It’s that simple. They’re calling it March Meowness, and it’s a month-long celebration of cats. It doesn’t even need to be your cat! The librarians will accept a photo or drawing of a pet cat, a friend’s cat, a famous cat, a shelter cat, or literally any furry friend. They just want people to use the library again, which I highly recommend to everyone!
Half of men feel pressured to act manly
Toxic masculinity continues to be a major issue for men, as a recent study has found that 50% of 2000 men surveyed feel constant pressure to be manly. This includes being handy around the house, acting a certain way when with people, and having a specific body type. 29% of men wish they could embrace a more feminine side of themselves. A number of topics were deemed off topic for men to discuss, which is sad to think about. The good news: men are ready to retire the stigma around some of these topics. Those include their emotions and mental health! I will always contend: men need to cry more. It’s weird that there are men who believe they shouldn’t cry. That’s dangerous stuff, if you ask me. I just watched the episode of The Simpsons last night where Homer has to say goodbye to his mom – I cried like a baby. It is what it is! We all need a good cry.
