For the first time since 2017, RBC Training Ground will be coming to Milton.
The Canadian Olympic Committee’s free official talent search will be entering its 9th year. It’s found and funded 13 Olympians and seven Canadian Olympic medalists, and placed hundreds more into Canada’s Olympic talent pipeline.
They gather athletes from a wide range of sports and have them perform core speed, strength, power and endurance tests in front of Olympic talent scouts from eleven different sports. The goal is to find the sport for which the athletes are best suited, often ones they have even considered before.
Three local athletes recently received funding for training following the last round of tryouts.
With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games fast approaching, as many as 20 RBC Training Ground graduates are in line for spots on Team Canada. This would mark a milestone for the program after five graduates represented Canada at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games and eight graduates competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Among them include RBC Training Ground alumni Avalon Wasteneys (Gold, Tokyo 2020, Rowing), Pierce LePage (reigning decathlon World Champion), Kelsey Mitchell (Gold, Tokyo 2020, Track Cycling) and Marion Thénault (Bronze, Beijing 2022, Freestyle Skiing).
Officials will be on-hand at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre inside the Velodrome Gym at 2015 Pan Am Boulevard in Milton. The event starts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9th and will run until roughly 1:00 p.m.
Athletes are encouraged to register at RBCTrainingground.ca. Walk-ups are also welcome.
