What are your plans for the long weekend?
With the fresh snow, many Miltonians might be looking to hit the slopes at Glen Eden for Family Day. You could also go for a hike through one of Conservation Halton’s trails/parks!
Maybe you’re looking to stay in this long weekend. If that’s the case, there are all kinds of board games and video games to try as a family! You can also schedule a nice family dinner with relatives you haven’t seen since the holidays.
Anything special planned for this weekend – or is it same-old, same-old?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Help name Milton’s newest school
Milton is getting a new school this fall and it still needs a name! If you have an idea – the HDSB wants to hear from you. It can be anything: a person, place or thing – so long as it has a tie to Milton. You can also submit a more national figure, which is how Viola Desmond and Craig Kielburger have schools named after them. The deadline to submit a suggestion is March 12th.
Daily WTF – Conductor and detective team up to find the person who left thousands of dollars on train
Here comes the money train! A passenger left something VERY important behind when getting off at their stop. It wasn’t a cellphone, workpapers or even food… it was $30,000. The assistant conductor of the train came across it, and immediately reported the bag. How they got the bad back to the person was interesting. They got their image from the train’s security footage, and a detective found a day planner inside the bag. Noticing the person in question had a car appointment, the detective went to the mechanic and asked if they had seen the person in the footage. That’s how they got the money back to the owner. That’s a real life episode of Law and Order right there!
We got a lot of snow
I don’t think the people driving around town yesterday were well aware of the amount of snow that was coming into the area. There were several crashed cars on my drive home in the afternoon, one that I saw happen because the car couldn’t brake while sliding down a frozen hill. Terrifying. Just when we thought we were out of winter, it pulled us back in.
Daily Did You Know – Maple Season returning to Milton conservation areas
One of the best things about winter in Milton is set to come back. Maple Season is kicking off at Conservation Halton parks, including Maple Town at Mountsberg and Sweet Water Season at Crawford Lake. They’re great events for the family to enjoy, with delicious sweet treats, and lots of chances to learn something about sap tapping season. Maple Season starts on March 2nd and runs into April.
Take the family fishing for free this long weekend
We’re talking about things to do this long weekend, why not go fishing? The provincial government has announced that with the long weekend, they will waive all fees to go fishing for the next three days. It’s a great chance to teach the kids how to sling a rod. You could also just go by yourself or with friends and enjoy the holiday. All standard fishing rules and regulations apply. There are a few more free fishing weekends this year, so if you’d prefer it to be warmer, you can always wait it out.
Jennifer Lopez bringing tour to Toronto this August
Jenny from the Block is coming to town this summer! Jennifer Lopez has announced a Canadian stretch of her ‘THIS IS ME…NOW’ tour. If fans want to dance and enjoy J-Lo this summer, tickets go on-sale next Friday. The Toronto show will be on August 2nd.
Vendor applications open for Milton Farmers’ Market 2024
If you own a small business that runs the market game during the summer season, the Milton Farmers’ Market wants to hear from you! They’re looking for food and craft vendors, as well as non-profit/charity booths. You have a bit of time to submit an application, with the market set to start in May. It runs all summer, ending in October.
Dua Lipa releases video for new song ‘Training Season’
Dua Lipa continues to make bop after bop, hit after hit, banger after banger. The pop singer released the video for her new song ‘Training Season’ on Thursday evening. She debuted the song at the Grammys recently, but it’s now officially out with a video. Lipa says that she got the idea for the song after going on a string of bad dates before declaring “training season is over” to her managers and producers. If you want to dance this morning, give it a listen!
Loblaws flyer from 2019 goes viral after Canadians are blown away by low prices
If it feels like your groceries are absurdly expensive compared to just a few years ago, that’s because they are. We all know about inflation – I talk about the rise in cost of living in Milton seemingly every morning. But you won’t believe just how far we’ve come in such a short time in terms of the price of items at the grocery store. Someone posted a Loblaws flyer from 2019 online. They said they came across it when deleting old photos off their phone. The flyer shares deals for butter, burgers, ribs, fruit, and more. A lot of the prices on this flyer are less than half the current price of the same items, and it’s been less than five years. Do you remember a world where you could get a pound of butter for just $2.99? Well, it existed… and it was just before the pandemic. Isn’t this fun?!
How many breaks should we take a day?
How often do you take a break? We’re all so busy, whether it’s work, family, friends, life in general – we are always on the go. A study says: TAKE A BREAK. Take several breaks, actually. 1/8 people don’t take any breaks all day, and the average person only takes four breaks a day. Researchers have found that everyone should be taking at least five breaks a day, classified as roughly 17 minutes of relaxation with no distractions. This includes: listening to music; snacking or eating; walking or sitting outside; or just enjoying a cup of coffee/tea. People need breaks to avoid burnout, so if you want to stay healthy and happy, take some ME time. Be selfish for once… actually, be selfish five times a day. You got this!
