Friday, February 2nd is Groundhog Day!
More locally, we’ll wait and see what Wiarton Willie has to say regarding the future of our weather; but, how great are these groundhogs at their prognostications?
Looking at the most famous of the woodchucks, Punxsutawney Phil has a pretty poor track record. The latest stats provided by Fox say he’s hovering around 39-40% in terms of all-time accuracy. That means you’re better off believing the opposite of what Phil “predicts” than going with his actual prediction.
We’ll wait and see come Friday morning!
Will Willie see his shadow? Do you even believe in Groundhog Day – or is it just a fun event for an otherwise boring day?
(I for one have full faith in our groundhog oracles.)
Let me know!

Daily WTF – Dried out 285-year-old citrus fruit sells for £1,400 after sparking bidding war
When life gives you lemons, you hang on to them for 285 years. This lemon was found at the bottom of a 19th century chest that was found during a house clearance in England. It’s not just any lemon – it’s a ‘love lemon’ that was given by Mr P Lu Franchini in 1739 to Miss E Baxter. How do they know this? It’s quite literally carved into the lemon as a message between the two lovers. The people who found it thought it was interesting and could be worth something, so they brought it to an auction, where it went for close to $2400 CAD. That’s some expensive lemonade! Here’s how to spend the NHL All-Star weekend in Toronto
The NHL All-Star game is in Toronto this weekend. This isn’t an everyday event, so if you’re a big hockey fanatic, you might want to enjoy at least SOME of the festivities being offered. The last time Toronto hosted the game was in 2000, so it’s been a while. The All-Stars hit the red carpet today at the Metro Toronto Convention centre at 3:30 p.m. There will be the draft tonight with a small awards ceremony. The PWHL will also play some 3-on-3 hockey. The skills competition is tomorrow, with the all-star game itself scheduled for Saturday. Justin Bieber, Tate McRae, Michael Buble, and Will Arnett will all have roles during the events. There will also be stuff happening all over the GTA, so if you want to enjoy the weekend with the family, you can easily find SOMETHING hockey-related to do (at varying costs, obviously). Fan breaks Guinness World Record for most Taylor Swift songs ID’d by their lyrics in one minute
Taylor Swift’s biggest fan appears to be from Pakistan. 20-year-old Bilal Ilyas Jhandir was able to identify the most Taylor Swift songs within one minute. He had to identify each of Swift’s songs from the list of her top 50 best-selling tunes. The beginning lyrics were read aloud by a man without any music in the background. He got through 34! He spent 13 weeks preparing for the test, which apparently led to him saying them in his sleep. Hopefully he gets to see her live in concert soon! Read more here…
At trendy Japanese cafés, customers enjoy cuddling with pigs
Move over Cat Cafes, there’s a new animal coffee shop in town (but not our town). Many people have gone and experienced the joys of a cat cafe, which allows customers to sit and enjoy their coffee surrounding several cats in the store. There’s one in Stratford that my wife and I went to do, fun experience if you like cats! Now, in Japan, people are enjoying Pig Cafes! People can go order a coffee, sit down, and enjoy the presence of small pigs in the store. Brings a whole new meaning to ‘teacup pig’! No word on the smell, but I’m sure you make some sacrifices to be around pigs. Read more here…

Travis Kelce Confirms He Can’t Attend the Grammys with Taylor Swift Due to Super Bowl
It’s a bit of a busy two weeks for Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. This weekend will be the Grammys, as Swift goes for a record amount of ‘best album’ awards. She won’t have her man in her corner at the event, however, as Kelce has confirmed that he will be too busy preparing for the Super Bowl the following weekend. Swift will reportedly be hard pressed to appear at the big game as well, with her tour being in Japan that weekend. Imagine being too successful to see your partner regularly? There are definitely worse relationship issues. Read more here…
DREW BARRYMORE CATFISHED ON DATING APP BY ‘NFL PLAYER’
Hey, even big name celebrities get catfished on dating apps. If you don’t know, catfishing is where someone pretends to be someone else in an online relationship. It’s become such a major thing in today’s world that an MTV show was made about it, where it catches people in the act. The person Barrymore matched with claimed to be the quarterback of the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL. Turns out, he was just a failing musician who thought it’d be cute to lie about his identity to Drew Barrymore of all people. Good thing too, because Rams QB Matt Stafford is very much a married man. Man training for marathon with fridge on his back stopped by police
I think if you saw someone running down the street with a refrigerator on their back, you’d also have some questions. 34-year-old Daniel Fairbrother is looking to break an interesting world record at the London Marathon. He wants to be the fastest person to ever complete a marathon while carrying a household appliance. So, to train, he’s been running with a fridge on his back, nicknamed ‘Tallulah’ after the bobsleigh in Cool Runnings. He’s trying to raise money for a local diabetes charity in honour of his best friend. Outright top lad. Thing is, it DOES look suspicious to see a grown man running down a street with a fridge on his back. Police officers stopped Fairbrother and asked him questions, assuming he stole the fridge from a nearby home. One officer even joked, saying “you know restaurants DELIVER these days, right?” Once they realized he wasn’t a thief, they let him go. Could you imagine if they DIDN’T believe him? That’d be an awkward night in jail. Read more here…
