Daily WTF – Emu recaptured after third escape from Alabama home
If your emu keeps running away from your home, maybe you shouldn’t have an emu. Esmeralda has become a bit of an escape artist in Jemison, Alabama. She’s one of Sue Sanford’s dozens of pets and one of her two emus. When Esmeralda escapes, Sanford heads to Facebook to see if anyone has seen her. Apparently, she’s very well known after fleeing for a THIRD TIME. Good news, despite the flightless bird being fast as heck, she was eventually caught safe and sound. Remember, if Sanford can catch her pet emu, you can catch Fido as he runs down Ontario Street for the 14th time. Read more here…

Emmys Round-Up Chat
The Emmys were on last night! Considered the biggest night in television recognition, many TV shows, actors, producers, etc. walked away with hardware. Succession and its crew had a big night, as did Beef and The Bear. Better Call Saul also made history with the most losses ever (53), and with no Emmy win in any category EVER. If you’re looking for a show to binge, it’s always good to start with the winners and nominees. Read more here…
Toronto’s Dan Levy explains why he turned down role in ‘Barbie’ movie
You should go through your life without any regrets… or so people say. Many people, if not most people, have some regrets. And for Actor/Writer Dan Levy, his biggest regret might be making headline news right now. The breakout star of Schitt’s Creek is on the press tour for his latest flick ‘Good Grief’, and the topic of Barbie came up. After making more than $1 billion, it’s widely considered one of the biggest movies of all time. It was an outright cultural phenomenon in 2023 and is winning all kinds of awards during award show season. What’s the issue? Dan Levy had to turn down a role in the movie. Why did he do such a thing? Scheduling conflict. He says he tried really hard to make it work, but it just couldn’t happen. Your regrets might keep you up at night, while his regrets cost him lots of money, fame and recognition. That’s gotta hurt. Read more here…
Terry Ryan goes out with fists flying on 47th birthday in surprise return to pro hockey
Speaking of regrets, sometimes you can tackle them head on. Terry Ryan once played eight games in the NHL. He was also a top pick in the draft in the 90s, and seemingly had a career ahead of him as an elite power forward for the Montreal Canadiens. Then, as life went on, he never really made it to the show. He’s been labelled a bust, and has shifted gears later in life. He’s now an actor, and has appeared on all kinds of Canadian programming, including the hit hockey show ‘Shoresy’. While still playing men’s hockey in Newfoundland over the years, Ryan never really made his mark professionally. And yet, as fate would have it, on his 47th birthday, the man managed to signed a contract with his hometown Newfoundland Growlers (ECHL team for the Toronto Maple Leafs development system). He actually made his way into a game thanks a flu outbreak on the team, where he did what he was seemingly born to do: punch people in the face with skates on his feet. Gotta respect the game. What Is Smishing? Definition, Examples & Protection
A new fraud scam is running rampant on our phones: SMishing. It combines fishing scams with SMS messaging (texting). Like other scams, it particularly attacks older residents. It’s a tricky scam because it may appear as a legitimate institution, such as a bank, a service provider or a company that you recently did business with. They lure you into clicking a link, you fill out your information, and boom! You’ve been hacked. They may even get you with malware, which means your phone would be entirely compromised. Don’t click links sent to you via text by numbers you don’t know. Also, let your parents know this too. You might think this stuff is obvious, they might not. Read more here…
Are ‘man colds’ real? Experts says “yes”
For everyone, obviously, this true – but for men especially – getting sick is not fun. If you’re a woman, at some point, you’ve likely wished a man in your life (partner, friend, coworker, dad) just sucked it up and stopped acting like a baby. Famously known as the ‘Man Flu’, men have been claiming their illness hits them harder than women. Is this actually true? Well, experts say “yes, it appears to be true.” Flu symptoms reportedly hit men harder than women, but less often. The answer could be hormones. They say testosterone is reportedly great at preventing disease, while estrogen is great at fighting it. HA! Now I can continue being the biggest baby on the planet when I’m sick because SCIENCE BACKS ME UP! TAKE THAT! Read more here…
‘Mean Girls’ Musical Rules With $32 Million Holiday Debut
Word on the street is that the new Mean Girls movie is a success, and could even make more money than the original 2004 film! Reviews are doing pretty good (despite not being marketed as a musical) and it’s essentially made its money back after just one weekend (with the UK and New Zealand getting the film this coming weekend). Is it the classic that the 2004 movie became? Probably not. But, it’s been 20 years. In 20 more years, adults might only remember this musical version… unless the Mean Girls-verse expands and there are ten movies like the Fast and Furious franchise. If that means I can see Tina Fey driving a car in space, I’ll take it. Read more here…
