The Halton Region Police Service (HRPS) has arrested and charged three people following an attempted auto theft in Milton.
On the evening of Saturday, November 4th, a Halton resident was driving home from Toronto and noticed a vehicle had been following them. When the individual parked in a driveway, masked occupants of the suspect vehicle approached the individual’s vehicle. After realizing the individual was on the phone, the suspects fled to their vehicle and drove away. The individual was on the phone with police, who were able to quickly respond to the area and successfully locate the suspect vehicle nearby.
Following the arrest, a subsequent search of the suspect vehicle led to the discovery of a Winchester air pistol under the driver’s seat.
20-year-old Vineet Chopra of Toronto, 24-year-old Gurpreet Singh Sasn of Scarborough, and 19-year-old Mandeep Singh of Cambridge were each charged with:
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Disguise with Intent
The HRPS is reminding the public to remain vigilant while driving, and to pay particular attention to vehicles that may be following them. Should such a vehicle be observed, the public should:
- Call 9-1-1 immediately
- Provide the call taker with location, direction of travel, and detailed description of the suspect vehicle, including the suspect vehicle’s licence plate (if possible)
- Follow all directions provided by police
