The results are in for the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) Project Safe Start campaign!
At the start of every school year, the HRPS shifts their efforts to educating drivers about the ABC’s of road safety: Always Be Cautious.
The 16th annual initiative ran from Monday, August 28th to Friday, September 8th. A combined 1,947 charges were laid and 1,389 warnings were issued across the Region.
Amongst the most common offences were:
- Drivers failing to stop at a stop sign
- Speeding
- Failing to display two licence plates
- Driving while holding a hand-held communication device
“We’d like to thank the public, our community partners, and the media for their continued support of Project Safe Start,” says Stephen J. Tanner, Chief of Police, Halton Regional Police Service. “While the campaign has officially wrapped-up for another year, our work is by no means done. We ask that you do your job as drivers to obey the rules of the road, and trust that we will be doing our job to enforce them. Road safety is a year-round priority, and we’re committed to making our roads safer for you, and children across our Region. Together, let’s not just have a safe start, but a safe year.”
