Despite it having a new name, Halton Women’s Place is hoping their annual walk will have the same support from the community.
The local women’s shelter has changed their ‘Hope in High Heels’ event to ‘Hope in Every Step’. It’s held every year in an effort to end violence against women and show support for those affected by gender-based violence within the community.
Halton Women’s Place Director of Philanthropy and Community Engagement, Carm Bozzo, says the name change was about inclusivity.
Even with the name change, she adds that the popular pink heels will still be at the event and available to anyone willing to try them on for the walk. The decision was made to shift the focus away from the heels and have it be on the survivors of violence against women.
Bozzo says it’s all about support.
Hope in Every Step will be on Saturday, September 23rd at the Milton GO station. Check-in starts at 10:00 a.m., with the walk beginning at 11:00 a.m. You can register here for the event! Walk-ups will be available, as well as on-site donations. Swag bags will be given out to the first 150 registered walkers.
A second event will be held in Burlington on Sunday, September 24th at Burlington’s City Hall.
