A three-year investigation by the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has led to the arrest of the owner of OOM Energy and a local insurance broker.
OOM (Order of Magnitude) Energy, also known as MCS Energy, was at the centre of reports from more than twenty complainants who reportedly invested in the company. More than $3 million was invested in OOM Energy by private investors in respect to projects that involved the installation of electrical generators.
The HRPS reports that OOM Energy misled these investors to believe that their money was guaranteed by an insurance program. These investors were also supplied with forged insurance documents. Here is a press release from 2018 from the company that discusses their goal of “revolutionizing how people and businesses get their energy.”
The owner of OOM Energy, 65-year-old Craig Hugh Clydesdale of Oakville, and insurance broker, 61-year-old Thomas Craig McBeath of Markham were both arrested on Friday, June 16th. They are both charged with multiple counts of Fraud Over $5,000 and forgery related offences.
It is believed that there may be more victims and witnesses in the community. Anyone with further information is asked to contact D/Cst. Ed Spence of the Halton Police Regional Fraud Unit at (905) 465-8746.
