The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has made a decision following their investigation into an incident that left a 24-year-old woman dead and a 29-year-old man in critical condition in Burlington.
On Friday, July 7th, a woman died at an apartment building on Ghent Avenue. The report issued by the SIU says that it’s believed she fell from her apartment’s balcony while trying to scale to a balcony below. This came after a call came in that a gun was brandished by a person in the apartment. When officers knocked on the apartment door, the woman made her way to the small balcony, where she fell to her death. The cause of death was blunt force trauma.
The report also states that the man also tried to scale the balcony. It states that he fell roughly the same time that officers used a battering ram to open the apartment door. He was hospitalized with serious injuries, and was diagnosed with a brain injury.
In the report, SIU Director Joseph Martino says he does not believe there is “reasonable grounds… that either subject official committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident.”
