Milton Transit didn’t fare too well in the latest Transit Report Cards.
The report cards examine the GTHA region on a municipality-by-municipality basis, assessing service coverage, reliability, transit priority measures, 24-hour service delivery, and integration.
Scoring a D- from the Toronto Region Board of Trade (TRBOT), the main issue on the report was the lack of all-day service. This issue impacted the overall score, with a number of categories being hit.
On Wednesday, July 5th, the Milton Chamber of Commerce joined the TRBOT in its call for better public transit across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), including Milton.
“Milton’s transit system has seen some great expansion in recent years, but there are still significant challenges for residents and workers,” says Bianca Caramento, President & CEO of the Milton Chamber. “It’s time to roll up our sleeves and make the necessary changes to create the transit network we deserve. As the Town of Milton updates its Transit Master Plan, we have the opportunity to enact change and improve.”
It is important to note that while it’s not perfect, the Town of Milton has been steadily working to make improvements with Milton Transit. Over the last few years, here are some notable headlines:
- Milton is getting a new transit facility
- Milton Transit working with local company to electrify bus
- Milton Transit OnDemand now available in more local areas
- Milton Transit receiving more than $1 million in funding thanks to gas tax
- Milton Transit officially on Google Maps
- A second GO station could be coming soon to Milton
- Council approves plan to make Milton GO Station area accessible
- Connect to Milton Transit and GO Transit with no co-fare fee
- Milton Transit bus stop signs getting upgrades
Hopefully more improvements are made, as many residents continue to demand two-way, all-day GO service, as well as cross municipality routes through Halton.
