A Georgetown man is facing assault charges after a heated verbal altercation turned physical.
On Saturday, June 10th, just after 3:00 a.m., two males started arguing at Wyndham Street North and Douglas Street in Guelph. A passerby (a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community) tried to intervene and deescalate the situation. The suspect began recording the passerby while yelling homophobic slurs, before slapping the victim across the cheek.
The man’s friend apologized to the victim, but the suspect continued yelling slurs and spat towards the victim, who was not physically injured.
The suspect was located in the area and arrested. A 22-year-old unnamed Georgetown man has been charged with assault. He will appear in a Guelph court on Friday, July 21st.
