Police were keeping a keen eye on drivers this past week!
Canada Road Safety Week ran from Tuesday, May 16th to Monday, May 22nd. Roughly 12,600 were handed tickets for infractions related to unsafe driving practices.
Officers laid over 7000 charges for speeding or stunt driving, 622 people were not buckled up, 245 were impaired by alcohol or drugs and 144 people were charged with being distracted.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) alone responded to seven fatalities on OPP patrolled roads, three of which happened over the Victoria Day long weekend.
