Workers in the public sector have their laundry aired every year thanks to the Ontario Sunshine List.
The list details the annual earnings of every public worker in the province. Residents using the tool can determine who in Ontario made the most, and even focus their search to Milton.
As it stands, the top ten currently listed for Ontario’s highest paid public workers is:
- Kenneth Hartwick, President of Ontario Power Generation, $1,635,785 dollars
- Dominique Miniere, President, Nuclear, Ontario Power Generation, 1,527,441.40
- Sean Granville, Chief Office, Ontario Power Generation, $1,067,061.74
- Michael Martelli, Chief Project Officer, Ontario Power Generation, $1,014,592.45
- Kevin Smith, President and CEO, University Health Network, $932,245.84
- Ronald Cohn, President and CEO, the Hospital For Sick Children, $851,940.97
- Phil Verster, President and CEO, Metrolinx, $851,867.19
- Andy Smith, President and CEO, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, $850,180.17
- Matthew Anderson, President and CEO, Ontario Health, $830,220.89
- Penny Sutcliffe, Medical Officer of Health and CEO, Public Health Sudbury And Districts, $808,355.53
Notable figures that didn’t make the top ten include Premier Doug Ford earning $209,264.76; now-former Toronto Mayor making $204,375.59; and current Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw made $246,184.18.
On a pure Milton basis, the highest paid public workers in our town are:

- Kristene Scott, Commissioner – Community Services, Town of Milton, $227,601.60
- Troy Mcharg, Commissioner – Corporate Services, Town of Milton, $227,296.80
- Glen Cowan, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, Town of Milton, $216,766.92
- Doug Sampano, Director – Facilities, Operations & Environment, Town of Milton, $206,478.98
- Peter Gatto, Fire Chief, Town of Milton, $199,023.95
- Jill Hogan, Commissioner – Development Services, Town of Milton, $198,119.18
- Gord Krantz, Mayor, Town of Milton, $184,129.06
- Andrew Scott, Director – Strategic Initiatives and Business Development, Town of Milton, $174,684.21
- John Brophy, Director – Roads Infrastructure, Development Services, Town of Milton, $173,784.16
On a regional level, Halton Regional Police Service Chief Stephen Tanner made $335,437.89.
Reminder that these numbers are made public because these people work in the public workers. Anyone working for a private company would not find themselves on this list. Anyone on this list might also work for a private company, and therefore this might not reflect their full earnings last year.
