The weather hasn’t been too kind to a new Town of Milton initiative.
After the up-and-down temperatures, the Town has decided its time to close the outdoor neighbourhood rink program at all four locations:
The outdoor neighbourhood rink program was introduced last October, where groups of neighbours committed to building and operating outdoor ice rinks at a community park for all residents to enjoy, free of charge. This year, Town staff supported the installation of four neighbourhood rinks, trained volunteers, and provided ongoing maintenance tips.
“While it’s unfortunate we couldn’t officially open the rinks due to unfavourable weather conditions, the Town is impressed and appreciative of the efforts put forth by volunteers to establish rinks in four different locations in the community,” says Town of Milton Commissioner, Community Services Kristene Scott. “We look forward to working with neighbourhood groups to reinstate the program again next year.”
With the outdoor rinks closed for the season, the Town invites residents to check out drop-in skating at the Milton Sports Centre and Sherwood Community Centre.
Information on next year’s Outdoor Rink Program will be available in the fall.
