A Tobacco and Vape education and enforcement blitz geared toward retailers kicks off today (jan30).
The eight-week blitz aims to reduce access to illegal smoking products by youth in Simcoe Muskoka.
Public health enforcement officers with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit are given authority to enforce and ensure local businesses, public places, schools and
workplaces are following the law.
Martin Kuhn is a program coordinator with the health unit, he says their goal is to protect youth and achieve retailer compliance.

He says that means 1 in every 3 underage person in Simcoe Muskoka who attempted to purchase vape or cigarette products were successful.
Retailers must ask for ID in any case when someone appears under the age of 25 in order to be compliant with regulations and if they cannot produce proper ID, the sale cannot
be completed.
