The Milton Community Resource Centre (MCRC) has been holding its annual Fill-a-Crib campaign for its Infant Food Bank since November.
The goal for the local organization is to fill over 50 cribs for children and families. That means providing them with basic infant essentials such as diapers, formula, baby cereals, and food. In the event posted to our local community calendar, the MCRC says the cost of living has been on hard on Milton families:
“In recent month’s we have seen numbers on a consistent rise of families requiring our services and donations on a steady decline as more and more families do not have extra to give.”
A crib is valued at either $500 in monetary donations or actual infant essentials donated. With 50 cribs filled, the Infant Food Bank will be able to provide enough supplies to families in the community for at least three months.
“Milton is the fastest growing community in Ontario, with a population of over 125,000 people we can expect that our numbers will continue to increase each month. It has been reported that Milton has the highest-level proportion of working poor population as well as the highest poverty rate in children in all of Halton. We need your help now more than ever!”
More than 120 babies and children benefit from the Infant Food Bank. To help keep the shelves stocked each month, the MCRC needs the community’s help in purchasing and donating the following:
- Diapers
- Wipes
- Baby Food
- Baby Cereal
- Powdered Formula
- Menstrual Products
- Monetary Donations
The campaign wraps up on Friday, January 13th.
