The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) calls the suspicious death a homicide and identifies the victim as 31-year-old Jerwin Belmonte.
Belmonte was a resident of Edmonton Alberta, who had recently re-located to Toronto. Belmonte was last seen alive in the area of Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue East in Toronto on Saturday, November 26th.
Investigators are appealing to individuals who may have had contact with Belmonte on or prior to November 26th or those that may have information about his murder.

The Halton Police is investigating a suspicious death linked to a vehicle fire.
On Sunday, November 27th, at roughly 3:30 a.m., police and fire services responded to a vehicle fire in the area of 5463 Dundas Street west of Tremaine Road in Burlington. After the fire was extinguished, emergency services personnel discovered the body of a deceased person inside the vehicle. The circumstances are suspicious and the Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. The deceased person has not been identified as of yet and the vehicle will been taken to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for further examination.
Police would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the fire, travelled in the area of Dundas Street between Bronte Road and Appleby Line, or who may have any dashcam footage from November 27th between 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. within the following area:
- Highway 407 (north)
- Appleby Line (west)
- Bronte Road (east)
- QEW / 403 (south)
