You might see two outdoor hockey rinks going up around town!
The Town of Milton has launched a new outdoor neighbourhood ice rink program. This is a collaborative project between residents and the Town.
Groups of six or more adults can build and operate a neighbourhood rink in a pre-approved location, meeting the criteria and agreed upon responsibilities to maintain the rink throughout the winter season. Town staff will support the installation of up to two rinks, train the volunteers, and provide tips on maintenance.
“A neighbourhood rink provides a community building opportunity where a group of neighbours are committed to building and operating an outdoor ice rink at a community park for all residents to enjoy, free of charge,” the Town says in a release. “Workplaces serving their community through volunteer initiatives should also consider applying to build and operate a rink this winter season.”
OnlineĀ applications are now open until November 3rd. For more information about criteria and responsibilities of the volunteer teams and Town staff, click here.
