The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested one of three suspects who fled from police in Milton.
On Thursday, May 19th, the HRPS received a call for a suspicious motor vehicle with three males at an industrial lot in Milton. When officers arrived, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and, in doing so, struck a curb causing significant damage to one of its tires. Shortly after, officers located the suspect vehicle abandoned and unoccupied in the area of Trafalgar Road and Steeles Avenue. Inside the motor vehicle, officers observed tools consistent with the theft of catalytic converters.
The HRPS – 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau took over the investigation. A Criminal Code Search Warrant was executed on the vehicle, which resulted in the recovery of stolen property including catalytic converters and reciprocating saws.
Over the months since, investigators authored nine judicial authorizations. As a result, a suspect was identified, and on Thursday, September 8th, investigators arrested 22-year-old Ray Cako of Etobicoke. He has been charged with the following offences:
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Theft Under $5000 (4 counts)
- Mischief Under $5000 (4 counts)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of Break in Instruments
Cako was released on an Undertaking.
During this investigation, eleven catalytic converters, two reciprocating saws, multiple batteries, and blades were seized.
Eight of the eleven seized catalytic converters were reunited with their rightful owners, saving each victim thousands of dollars in repair and replacement costs.
Two suspects remain unidentified in connection with this case. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact D/Cst. James Walsh of the 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2422.
