Provincial mask mandates expire this weekend for public transit and many health-care settings, hospitals and long-term care homes however, will require masks to be worn while within these facilities.
Stevenson Memorial Hospital has confirmed they are one of the health care centres within the Ontario Health’s Central region that will continue using masks within hospital settings.
Health experts have agreed that masking helps prevent the most vulnerable patients from contracting COVID-19.
It can also prevent transmission of COVID-19 to health-care providers.
Patients and visitors will be required to wear a mask when they arrive at the hospital, if they do not have one, a mask will be provided to them..
Should another wave of COVID-19 threaten the health system this fall, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Doctor Kieran Moore says mask mandates could come back.
