The federal budget was announced recently.
The Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, and Burlington MP Karina Gould shares what residents should know about this year’s budget.
She adds that the last two years of the pandemic meant that Canadians required a lot of federal support. That led to roughly nine million people who collected CERB. She says that money helped those who lost their jobs; it supported local businesses; and, it helped many cover rent through some scary months. MP Gould talks about how this new budget was shaped by COVID – in comparison to the previous two years.

She notes that she is particularly proud of the housing strategy. Exclaiming that this budget is all about housing, she says she’s excited to have played a part in developing a school food policy for all of Canada.
There are a lot of things that Canada needs to address to improve the lives of Canadian citizens. While this budget addresses needs in housing, it’s not a finished product. Investments in the environment are also needed to fight climate change. MP Gould says the last two years have shown that Canada needs to work on health transfers within the provinces and territories.
