A 54-year-old man has been charged with careless driving following a lengthy investigation into a single-vehicle collision on Cundles Road West in Barrie over the summer.
Barrie Police say officers responded to the collision on June 30th, at about 4:40 a.m. The incident occurred on Cundles Road West between Sunnidale Road and Coulter Street.
Emergency crews arrived to find a damaged vehicle lodged in a wooded area off the roadway. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Through their investigation, detectives determined the vehicle was travelling eastbound on Cundles Road West at excessive speed during heavy rainfall when the driver lost control.
The vehicle left the roadway, crossed a sidewalk and entered a wooded area, striking and knocking down several large trees. It then crossed a second pedestrian trail before coming to a stop in thick brush.
On Monday, October 19th, Barrie Police charged the 54-year-old man with careless driving.
Police are reminding motorists to adjust their speed to road and weather conditions and obey posted speed limits to help keep everyone safe.
