A 42-year-old Barrie man has been charged with offences related to child sexual abuse and exploitation material following a two-month investigation by the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit.
The investigation began after the unit received reports that a specific internet protocol (IP) address was using a peer-to-peer network to possess, download, and make child sexual abuse and exploitation material available.
On Thursday, October 15th, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Barrie and seized several electronic devices belonging to the accused.
A forensic analysis and categorization of the devices resulted in the discovery of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, police say.
The unnamed accused was arrested the following day. He was charged with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material and making available child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
