Halton Women’s Place is inviting residents, families, students and corporate teams to participate in its annual Hope in Every Step charity walk next month.
The event raises funds to support the organization’s shelter services, crisis support and programs for women and children experiencing violence and abuse.
Last year’s event raised $76,292, including more than $41,000 in pledges. For 2026, organizers have set a pledge fundraising goal of $25,000, with all funds raised supporting Halton Women’s Place programs.
Registration costs $20 for adults and $10 for youth. Participants can register individually or form teams with friends, family members and colleagues. Each walker receives a personal fundraising page to collect pledges, while team captains can create shared team pages.
Organizers say the funds raised help provide emergency shelter and support services for women and children fleeing violence. Halton Women’s Place reports that $250 covers one night of emergency shelter.
The event also offers a fundraising opportunity for students seeking volunteer hours toward their graduation requirements.
Through the Hours for Hope initiative, eligible young participants can earn verified volunteer hours based on the amount they raise by November 7th. Students can earn three hours for raising $100, with additional hours available at higher fundraising milestones. Those who raise $1,000 can earn a total of 11 hours.
Students interested in participating in the volunteer-hours program are asked to email Krisha at kshah@haltonwomensplace.com after registering so their fundraising totals and hours can be tracked.
Halton Women’s Place provides shelter, counselling and outreach services to women and children experiencing violence and abuse. The organization says it has served Halton Region for more than 40 years and operates year-round to support people in crisis.
The Hope in Every Step walk takes place Saturday, November 7th, at Spencer Smith Park in Burlington. Registration opens at 10:00 a.m., with the walk beginning at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided following the walk.
