A 33-year-old Barrie man is facing four charges after a series of collisions involving parked vehicles over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
Officers were alerted at around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, October 11th, about a vehicle that had struck parked vehicles along Stanley Street before leaving the scene.
The vehicle was later abandoned near Highway 400 and Tiffin Street. Using descriptions of the vehicle and its driver, Barrie Police identified the registered owner and attended his address.
Officers say a man matching the driver’s description answered the door. Police detected a strong odour of alcohol and noted that the man’s speech was slurred. After speaking with another person at the residence, officers learned the man had just arrived.
The man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and taken to police headquarters, where testing confirmed his blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit.
The 33-year-old has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired
- Operation while impaired (80 plus)
- Dangerous operation
- Fail to remain
The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone in the Stanley Street area who may have surveillance footage of the collisions on October 11th to contact the investigating officer by email at 12767@barriepolice.ca.
