A 23-year-old Burlington man is facing 11 criminal charges following an investigation into an alleged projector sales scam.
Waterloo Regional Police allege the accused was targeting residents near post-secondary campuses across the city.
They received five reports between August 26th and September 18th involving individuals attempting to sell projectors at significantly discounted prices.
According to investigators, low-cost projectors were rebranded and marketed as high-end models in an effort to deceive potential buyers.
The Burlington man has been arrested and charged with 11 criminal offences, including fraud over $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and uttering a forged document. He was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
Police are reminding residents to be cautious of unsolicited offers that appear too good to be true. Investigators also advise against giving cash, sending e-transfers or sharing personal information with people they do not know.
