The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has seized two firearms and laid multiple charges against two North York men following an investigation into thefts in Milton.
This investigation began after two suspects broke into a parked vehicle in Milton on September 2nd, stealing cash and valuables, including a watch. The following day, the same individuals allegedly attended Elements Casino in Milton and stole cash from a guest services drawer before fleeing when confronted by security.
Investigators identified the two accused, who police allege were involved in both incidents.
On October 1st, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in North York and arrested both suspects. Police seized a stolen Glock 17 handgun with three loaded magazines, a Norinco Type 56 rifle with two loaded magazines and a spring-assisted knife described as a prohibited device. Officers also recovered items allegedly stolen during the vehicle break-in in Milton.
38-year-old Iraklii Shariia and 47-year-old Davit Kukhilava, both of North York, each face the following charges:
- Two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Two counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
- Two counts of contravention of storage regulations
- Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device
- Possession of a weapon obtained by a criminal offence
- Theft over $5,000
- Theft under $5,000
Kukhilava also faces an additional charge of possession of a prohibited device.
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
