The Halton Catholic District School Board is hosting a series of information sessions this fall to help Grade 7 and 8 students and their families learn more about secondary school programs, application processes, and educational pathways.
Families can attend sessions covering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme, Advanced Placement (AP) Program, Grade 8 transition information and a variety of pathways leading to apprenticeship, college, university or work.
The IB Programme is offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Oakville and St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Secondary School in Milton. Information sessions are scheduled for Thursday, October 8th at St. Thomas Aquinas and Thursday, November 5th at St. Kateri Tekakwitha.
AP information sessions are also being held at several secondary schools, including:
- Corpus Christi in Burlington on October 15th
- Bishop P.F. Reding in Milton on October 20th
- Holy Trinity in Oakville and Assumption in Burlington on October 22nd
- St. Kateri Tekakwitha and St. Francis Xavier in Milton on November 5th
- Christ the King in Georgetown on November 12th
Grade 8 Information Evenings are being offered throughout Burlington, North Halton, and Oakville to help students entering Grade 9 in September 2027 prepare for the transition to secondary school. The sessions provide an overview of Grade 9 programs and opportunities to meet staff and learn more about each student’s future secondary school.
Additional programming will also be highlighted at various sessions, including STEAM, High Performance Regional Sports, AP and IB opportunities.
The board is also encouraging families to learn more about educational pathways available to students, including the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program, Specialist High Skills Major, Dual Credits, Specialty Programs and Cooperative Learning Opportunities.
