The 2026 Municipal Election is just over three weeks away.
INDIE FM has reached out to all ten mayoral candidates for Milton to discuss their platforms and some key topics affecting residents.
Each candidate will be asked the same questions, and the interviews are being done on a first-come, first-served basis.
Here is our interview with mayoral candidate, Asif Khan.
Q: First, provide me an elevator pitch — a quick breakdown — of your platform/campaign?
Q: Okay, so we’ll touch on a few of those things. The next one that I have here for you is: where do you stand on the growth of Milton? Everyone has opinions on how Milton is always growing, and is only going to continue growing. What would be your plan for growth as mayor when considering the now established Official Plan, which looks ahead to 2051?
Q: Related to the growth of Milton is job creation. You’ve already touched on Miltonians needing to commute for work, but it’s long been established that our town has a reputation for being a bedroom community. People live here, but work elsewhere. Should you be voted in as mayor in three weeks, what would be your plan for enhancing the local job market?
Q: In a similar vein to job creation, let’s discuss local business. ‘Support Local’ has been a big part of the community for years now, particularly since the pandemic. If you were voted in as mayor, how would you help and support local businesses?
Q: One of the hot topics of 2026 is artificial intelligence. It’s to the point that Milton’s Council addressed data centres at their final meeting of the last term. Considering that it has been a controversial issue, where do you stand on data centres, when taking in the known impacts to the environment and quality of life?
Q: You’ve touched heavily on the budget already, but it is going to be one of the first things this new council will work on following the election. When considering the annual budget, how are you planning to provide services for Miltonians while keeping the taxes low for residents?
Q: Before I let you go, is there anything else you’d like to touch on that I haven’t asked about?
