Milton students in Grades 6 to 12 are being invited to put their creativity on the page as Milton Public Library brings back its annual Put Pen to Paper short story contest.
Students can submit an original short story of up to 1,500 words on any topic of their choosing. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in two age categories:
- Grades 6 to 8
- Grades 9 to 12
Students must live in Milton or attend school in the community, and each student can submit one entry.
Stories can be submitted during Culture Days until October 4th. Students in Grades 6 to 8 can submit using the Junior Form, while students in Grades 9 to 12 can use the Senior Form. Entries can also be emailed as an attachment to Corrina.mcgill@beinspired.ca.
Submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. on October 4th. Email submissions should include the student’s first and last name, grade, story title and word count. The story title and page number must appear at the top of each page, but students should not put their names on their stories, as entries will be judged anonymously.
Entries must be typed, single-sided and double-spaced using 12-point Times New Roman font. All submitted work must be original, and the contest does not permit ChatGPT or the use of any form of artificial intelligence.
By entering the contest, students consent to their work, name and photograph being used for promotional purposes in local media and online.
