Area 8 Conservation Area in Milton (Cameron Wilkinson, 2022)
Conservation Halton is inviting families to take part in its final Family Fishing Derby of the year at Area 8 Conservation Area.
The family-friendly derby will include outdoor activities, prizes and fishing opportunities for both experienced anglers and those casting a line for the first time.
Participants can also register for the optional Build Your Own Bait Workshop, where they can create three custom lures.
Admission and activity fees apply. Gate admission is $10.50 for those 15 and older, $7.25 for ages 5 to 14 and free for children aged four and under. Fishing derby entry is $10 for all ages.
Optional rentals include three-person canoes, two-person kayaks and jon boats for $33 each. Fishing rod rentals and bait are also available for an additional fee, while the Build Your Own Bait Workshop costs $10. Prices do not include HST.
Boat rentals depend on weather conditions and water temperatures. Participants are asked to use barbless hooks.
Dogs are welcome at the derby but must remain leashed. Fishing is not permitted at the two dog beaches for the safety of dogs and visitors. Small dogs are allowed on rental boats, but participants are asked to be mindful of hooks and cast-offs.
The final Family Fishing Derby takes place Sunday, October 4th, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Area 8 Conservation Area. Tickets are limited. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
