A new three-storey elementary school in Milton is set to break ground this week.
The Halton District School Board (HDSB) will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony for the new school, currently referred to as Milton #13 Public School, on Friday, September 18th at 1:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the future school site at 1345 Trudeau Drive.
This 926-student school will feature an open-concept library with a rooftop terrace overlooking the neighbourhood, along with natural light throughout the learning environment and 88 licensed childcare spaces.
The approximately $43-million project is supported through capital funding from the Government of Ontario. Hossack Architecture was awarded the architectural contract, while Struct-Con Construction Ltd. is leading the construction phase.
Education Minister Paul Calandra says the project will provide students with an environment designed to support their education and future opportunities.
“Our government is focused on supporting students, teachers and parents while ensuring school boards are equipping our students with the tools they need to succeed,” says Calandra. “Once completed, this project will offer an inspiring learning environment that helps students prepare for rewarding, in-demand careers.”
Milton MPP Zee Hamid says the investment will provide additional education and childcare capacity as the community continues to grow.
“This $43-million school will create much-needed space for 926 students and 88 licensed childcare spaces, giving Milton families the modern education infrastructure they deserve,” says Hamid. “Our government is investing in the schools and childcare spaces needed to support Milton’s rapid growth and meet the needs of families in our community. This investment will provide students with modern learning spaces where they can thrive, while helping ensure Milton has the infrastructure needed for the next generation.”
HDSB trustees, senior administrative staff, local government officials, area residents and students who will eventually attend the school are expected to attend Friday’s groundbreaking ceremony.
The new Milton elementary school is expected to welcome students in fall 2028.
