Halton Healthcare has officially begun construction on a major hospital expansion that will add up to 123 new acute care beds at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and Milton District Hospital.
Ontario Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones joined Halton Healthcare officials at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Thursday, August 27th to mark the start of construction. The project is supported by more than $150 million in provincial funding.
The expansion will activate purpose-built but unfinished space across three floors at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and one floor at Milton District Hospital, allowing Halton Healthcare to increase inpatient capacity without constructing a new facility.
“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people in Halton and surrounding regions can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” says Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “As part of our $64 billion health infrastructure plan, today’s milestone means more families in the region will have access to world-class hospital care, closer to home.”
The project includes 111 new beds at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and 12 at Milton District Hospital. The additional capacity will include modern private and semi-private rooms designed to improve patient comfort and recovery, while helping reduce wait times and ease pressure on the health-care system.

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with the new spaces scheduled to open to patients in spring 2028.
