The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is launching its annual Project Safe Start campaign as students return to school.
This latest campaign marks the 19th annual Project Safe Start, an HRPS initiative focused on promoting road safety and protecting students, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians as the new school year begins.
As part of the campaign, HRPS officers will conduct increased enforcement in school zones throughout Halton Region.
The campaign launch will feature HRPS Chief of Police Stephen Tanner, who will highlight the importance of road safety in and around school zones.
During the 2025 Project Safe Start campaign, which ran from September 2nd to September 12th, officers laid a combined 2,252 charges and issued 637 warnings across Halton Region. The most common offences were disobeying a stop sign, speeding and failing to surrender an insurance card.
The 2026 Project Safe Start campaign will officially launch Tuesday, September 8th, at 10:00 a.m. outside West Oak Public School at 2071 Fourth Line in Oakville.
